What struck me most is how all the data keeps circling back to something simple. Movement as a way of living, not a workout you schedule. The longevity yes, but the real benefit is how it sharpens the mind and steadies the spirit.
i can genuinely say this is absolutely true. as someone who has started walking consistently over the past few months, i didn’t realize how much of a difference it would make until i experienced it myself. thank you for sharing such a thoughtful write up♥️♥️
hi Kenrique, i’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the write up and that you’re seeing the benefits of walking.:) such an amazing cure that costs us nothing.
Let’s walk forever!! I agree- anytime I’m going through something or want to solve a problem or am stuck, I take a walk (specifically in nature I see the most benefits)
I have often noticed that insight arrives after movement, not before it... Some of the patterns I've spent weeks trying to understand suddenly became obvious halfway through a walk.
There is something about moving the body that creates enough distance to finally see the story more clearly.
Fantastic article to listen! I loved learning more about the history of walking and getting our “steps” in. And the part about how you had one of the deepest conversations while on foot with your dad. The powerful of walking is truly boundless.
this was SO interesting. the 50% statistic about dementia made me audibly gasp!! but you have genuinely influenced me to start going for a walk each morning before i start working 💛
I used to walk everyday to and from my job for 7 years, now I commute to work and it has changed my mental and physical health drastically. Our bodies are made and designed for walking long distances. Loved reading your article!!!
exactly! I hate being in unwalkable cities for too long, I start feeling like an animal trapped in a cage. thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts!
I loved reading this. I have always loved to walk and honestly moving to a walkable city has changed my life--mentally and physically. I never knew the science behind this but was so interesting to learn more about this from your writing.
I’ve loved walking my whole life but never really stopped to think about it on a deeper level. This is so insightful and well researched, excellent article!
I love this. I’m sooo glad I live in San Francisco, and a large part of the reason I’m never leaving is just how walkable everything is. I don’t even own a car. It’s amazing
At one point, I loved researching stories and jotting them down on to my palm hah. Alas I moved out. Going out on a walk there felt peaceful. This put into words why I felt that way. Thank you!
It was my pleasure! Actually, I got off a bus a few stops early and I had to walk a good 25 minutes. And strangely enough, I'd just come across your story and I had something to focus on rather than the sweat pouring down my shaved head in this scorching heat <3

update: it was glorious (even in the rain!) i actually found it woke me up so much, i didn’t have to drink any caffeine all day!
Great article! Enjoyed it so much, not just for Is truth but also for the creativity encouraged

That's quite a lot, I think. I average around 10k. Stress always pushes me to 20 k 🫠
it is! I also average around 10k usually but it's June and I've been really into walking more lately.

thank you for taking the time to read it Makenna! :) me too, I could never live in a city that isn't walkable. I'm happy you enjoyed the essay.
